We provide complete gynecologic care specializing in that important first baseline pelvic exam for young women. Visits include complete health history, breast and pelvic exams, Pap smears, cultures, other laboratory studies as needed, and education on a variety of health and wellness topics. Nutritional counseling is available and our providers are familiar with many alternative dietary supplements for treatment and prevention of a wide range of conditions and issues.

Treatment of Gynecologic Problems
BWHC utilizes conservative management in offering alternative, low-risk strategies to address gynecologic problems. We offer treatment of abnormal Pap smears (such as atypia and HPV) with appropriate procedures including colposcopy and biopsy. Treatment plans may include such procedures as cryotherapy and LEEP.

Have hot flashes sparked the great battle over thermostat control? We provide counseling and care for peri-, menopausal, and postmenopausal women. We take the time to explore natural alternative therapies for symptomatic women and offer appropriate treatment.

If you are a candidate for a gynecologic surgical procedure such as a hysterectomy, or you desire a sterilization reversal, BWHC can help. The center's own Dr. Alan Schapker is a board-certified expert and has been certified in advanced operative laparoscopy procedures. These minimally invasive procedures carry decreased risks and are accomplished using tiny incisions so patients typically experience less pain, smaller scars, and a significantly shorter recovery period. These procedures can be done in an outpatient setting and patients can return home in a few hours.

Family Planning
One of the special services that BWHC promotes is Natural Family Planning (NFP). We invest the time that it takes with our families to explore this natural and holistic method of family planning. NFP involves shared responsibility between partners and respect for the gift of fertility. It uses no drugs or devices, involves no surgery, and requires no interference with normal body function in men or women. Instead, NFP uses natural signs of fertility and infertility to accomplish effective family planning. In addition, the cost is minimal and it can be used to promote or avoid pregnancy. Finally, NFP promotes couples-bonding through enhancement of communication in this very intimate area.
